Reflections on 380: Emoji Innovations

Welcome to… Reflections. 🎹

I love live Q&A’s because — well — they’re a little easier. They don’t require all the editing of a regular show, and because the listeners hand us a lot of the material, they don’t require as much preparation, either.

What I wasn’t prepared for was the way that emails and tweets came in continuously throughout the episode. Y’all really kept the conversation moving! And I enjoyed reading everything out as it all happened in real time.

Of course, having Hedvig on the line made it fun. We always have good chats. I think the three of us would keep having enjoyable weekly chats even if there weren’t a show.

Then there was the way that we stumbled across a possible sociolinguistic variable. We tried to think of the name for the thing that you blow on at parties, and it unrolls and makes a tooting noise? Like this guy is using: 🥳. There are Twitterand Facebookthreads going, so check those out.

Our next show will also be a live Q&A, so we’re looking for our next topic. Something people will want to chime in with. Got any ideas? We’d love to hear them.
